Nikos Marinis | Repetition and Differentiation

Nikos Marinis | Repetition and Differentiation

A repetitive compulsive – sacred process as obsession approaching issues related to the development of an organic system, in a natural way (as we find in nature or as the mind understands nature). Studying themes from biology, botany, geology, a line or pattern is selected which is multiplied – replicated creating a world. This microcosm – space is composed as the repeating pattern / line alternates in size, density, pitch, rhythm, giving an illusory pulsating picture. Full and void, near and away, condensation and dilution, solidity and liquidity, random becoming specific, inside and outside, order and disorder converge towards a synthetic solution. The choice of the dimensions of the projects are such that viewing becomes an experience from within, which could be virtually evolve beyond its limits.

Trying to cast the fear of the unknown and everyday stress, I resort to my “arabesques”. The production is done through a lonely, lengthy process of repetitive rhythmic motion, like a prayer that releases the associations while organizing them.

Nick Marinis was born in 1986 in Nafplio, Greece. He studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts (2006–2011) with professor Tassos Christakis.
