Natalia Vallianou-Gourova | Abstraction: Perceptions of the Unseen

I paint from the subconscious mind that every person has the possibility to explore for themselves. The unseen is common to all, but different to each individual. This inspires me as I know it is individual to me. I am exploring its harmony, colours, and its specific sense of beauty, its rhythm, contradictions and cosmic complexity. Using my imagination in this subconscious manner is what makes painting so exciting and inspiring. Painting is for me the application on the canvas of my personal perceptions and feelings, an imprint of the endless network of the subconscious reacting to the world around me. I think that from this point of view, there is no painting more realistic than abstraction, as ideas, feelings, thoughts and perceptions have no actual form, but they do have sense, logic, sensibility, beauty and force, colour and music. In the world of rules, regulations and control, where homogeneity is still widely promoted, what counts, in my opinion, is the opportunity, as well as is the challenge for individuals to create for themselves. Expressionism on the other hand, dynamic, moving, and based on the freedom of expression, action and experimentation, allows in the best possible way to approach what is unseen, hidden but essential, secret but common to all. Art is always an invitation to see, to feel, to think, to rethink, to discuss and to discover. I invite all of you to make this amazing travel together. Natalia Gourova, Artist and Art Curator
