The Dimitris Agelakis Jazz Trio was formed in February 2014 in Athens. Since then they have appeared in various venues in Greece. The main feature of the scheme is that the sound is based on the vibraphone, an instrument not so common but rich timbres. The idea of the shceme emerged from the vibraphonist Dimitris Agelaki after completing his studies in America, where along with Dimitris Klonis on drums and Periklis Trivolis on double bass, the need of a scheme based in Greece was created, in order for the musicians to join a common musical vision, which is jazz music. Since its creation, Dimitris Agelakis Trio has hosted major artists from Greece such as guitarist Giotis Samaras and saxophonist Takis Paterelis. The compositions are mostly original and there are also references to similar types of music, such as funk and Latin, creating a special idiom where the musical improvisation dominates.
