Sophia Papacosta | Τangles

In this series of black and white drawings, thoughts and stories are knitted together. Thin lines become threads that shape tangles. Some might be just ball strings, others many knitted layers that shape a protective outfit, like a suit of armour. A second skin is tangled over the real one. Drawing brings knitting on mind, to me a process that demands tranquillity. An illusion of pausing time and escaping.

Sophia Papacosta was born in Nicosia, Cyprus, in 1985. She studied Painting at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and Sequential Design and Illustration (Master of Arts), at the Brighton University, UK. Her artwork has been exhibited in several group exhibitions in Greece, Cyprus and other countries. She is currently based in Athens, Greece. [Biography updated on: 10/1/2012]
