Katerina Andreou | Oneironautics

Katerina Andreou | Oneironautics

“When we are awake, countless and obscure blends of recorded pictures and information of all types filter our perceptions of ‘reality’. When we are asleep, our unconscious mind scrambles information to dream scenarios... In ‘lucid dreams’, we realize and take advantage of dreaming to do whatever we want, without worrying about the consequences. As if we were oneironauts, we travel everyday in search of ingredients of a recipe for a life without fear.” In her first solo exhibition, Katerina Andreou attempts to convey parallel “realities” in two dimensions. With her brushes, markers and pencils, she creates representations that are so “real” to her, as any everyday life image. True or fabricated memories, genuine or imaginary characters, nature or utilitarian objects, serious or funny topics, childhood or adulthood: all elements participate equally in her work and, sometimes, become identical with each other, as they were recorded equally strongly. Oneironautics refers to the ability to travel within a dream, usually on a conscious basis. A traveler in a dream may be called an oneironaut.

Katerina Andreou is a visual artist graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Athens. She has worked as an illustrator of children's books and digital publications, created cartoon ads, organized comics’ workshops for children and participated in the Pan–Hellenic Mural Conference in Santorini with a presentation on graffiti. She works as an educator and has participated in many group exhibitions. [Biography updated on: 19/10/2012]
